Not impressed

You guys need to stop drinking the coolaid on this one.

Ok, we all know that Ted is into animal rights. And we all know that cruelty to animals is wrong. But where does he get the idea that the Bible teaches it's wrong to raise and harvest animals for food? Uh, food laws really pull people like the Apostle Paul's chain. Does he really think Paul didn't eat meat, or Peter, John and the rest? Food laws pulled everyone's chain in the New Testament except the Judaizers, and Ted's new found rules pull theirs! His views here are outside the scope of biblical revelation. By the way, what does Ted think Jesus ate on the night he was betrayed? In case no one knows, bitter herbs and roast lamb! Uh guys, that was specifically by God's command! So go ahead and enjoy your ham sandwiches.

In perspective, I've been listening to Tourniquet since Stop the Bleeding. But musically, I just can't get into this album. Gone are the fast and clever lyrics that make you think. Even when I agree with what is said, and I do at times, the way it's said is boaring. This album crawls where Crawl to China ran! The production feels MUDDY. The individual musicianship itself is fine. The drum work is good. The guitar work is good. Luke's singing is good. It's just that it doesn't seem to hang together well. Arangement is, well, not up to par for this legendary band. And again, production makes Once Dead's Visions of Hell look good! So save the money on this one for Big D's return this fall.

Music = Excellent / Vocal = Poor

Music is great. Ted Kirkpatrick has never sounded better. They still need to get a new Vocalist though. Luke Easter is great but just has never fit the "Tourniquet" sound. Wish they could either find someone more like Guy Ritter of the old days or find someone that sounds like the Opeth singer. I think an Opeth style vocal would make an awesome next Tourniquet album!

Siiiiiiick!

I absolutely love this CD! It's been a long nine years since The last one but it was well worth the wait. Outstanding musically. I really love the guest guitar soloists! Nice touch. I also really enjoy a few of the intros with the violin especially on Fed by Ravens, Eaten by Vultures. Two thumbs up and if Tourniquet wants to do another Kickstarter campaign right away I'd be on board again in a heartbeat!

Biography

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '90s, '00s

Formed in Los Angeles in 1990, thrash metallists Tourniquet is a trio, featuring members Luke Easter (vocals), Aaron Guerra (guitar, vocals), and Ted Kirkpatrick (drums), the latter who also doubles as the group's main songwriter. It doesn't take long after hearing the group's music to find out their chief musical influence is Iron Maiden — especially evident in the galloping rhythms and challenging song structures (as well as thought-provoking lyrics). But the trio is not your average metal...
