Vandaveer Digs Down Deep to produce its best album yet

On their previous full-length CD, the superb Divide and Conquer, vocalist Rose Guerin joined singer/songwriter/guitarist Mark Charles Heidinger and Vandaveer found its sound.

In Dig Down Deep, Vandaveer has produced its best album yet.

Heidinger is as good a lyricist and tunesmith as you’ll find among the current breed of folk musicians. When joined by Guerin’s otherworldly gorgeous vocals, the resulting sound is rich and beautiful, sometimes haunting, and always magical.

As usual, Heidinger’s deftly strummed and fingerpicked acoustic guitar provides the driving musical force for Dig Down Deep, but the album also features lovely instrumentation from a number of talented musicians, including Justin Craig and Robby Cosenza of the band, These United States.

Dig Down Deep is such a pleasure to listen to from start to finish that it’s hard to pick out highlights. From the lovely and inspiring title track to the haunting version of The Waking Hour, reworked from their recent EP, the album never disappoints. Concerning Past and Future Conquests and The Nature of Our Kind are quintessential Vandaveer, catchy and cleverly written. If Pick up the Pace had existed in the 60s, Dylan and Baez would have wished it was their song. Dave Matthews might well wish that he had written Spite, a song thematically similar to his Big-Eyed Fish.

Vandaveer’s influences seem to be wide-ranging – but their sound is contemporary and unique.

The iTunes bonus track, a cover of the Everly Brothers’ All I Have to Do is Dream, is further testament to the magic that is created when Mark and Rose’s voices combine.

Buy this album and go see Mark and Rose live. You won’t regret it.

Great music

Brought Me To Bright.

At moments the production on this CD is astounding. The rest of the time it's just fuggin fantastic. I've been listening 3 days straight. This is a best foot forward. Vocals that natural/rare are rare/natural. Lyrics for days.

Vandaveer is a musical project spearheaded by Mark Charles Heidinger, who also fronts the group the Apparitions and plays bass sporadically for These United States. Unlike his other groups, Vandaveer is primarily a solo project anchored by Heidinger's voice and acoustic guitar, displaying the influence of such iconic singer/songwriters as Bob Dylan and Tom Waits, though both on-stage and in the recording studio Heidinger is assisted by a number of talented friends and colleagues.
