iTunes Review

The Presets have done the impossible with their second disc — they've bridged the gap between aging Depeche Mode fans, recovering new-wave addicts, and hipsters who actually know how (or aren't afraid) to dance. If you're wondering how this happened, the answer is easy. Much like Ladytron on their last couple of albums, Australia's leading synth/drums duo has learned how to write arena-ready anthems that sound downright MASSIVE on the right sound system. Nowhere is this more apparent than on "My People," a speaker-singeing battle cry of buzz saw melodies and filtered call-and-response choruses. "This Boy's In Love" is a little more subdued but not by much, as it weaves skittering synth lines through twinkling minor keys and the booming, Gahan-caliber vocals of Julian Hamilton. As for some breathing room between all these jams, it's available throughout the black-lit balladry of "If I Know You" and the six surprisingly gorgeous closing minutes of "Anywhere." Listen to that one long enough and you might think these guys have a peak hour chill-out record in them. Here's hoping ...

Whoa

I don't write reviews. I have neither the time nor the patience. But I have to say, out of my collection of 100s of albums, this has got to be the most refreshing new electronic I've downloaded in....well a long long time. The first reviewer nailed it on the head. This stuff tastes of early Ebb and 242, and is some of the best electronic music ever produced.

They got on their knees and prayed to Nitzer Ebb...

...and the fathers of EBM heard their prayers and blessed the world with Apocalypso! For that dear Presets, I crown your sophomore release the SICKEST album of 2008! Let us all give thanks to The Presets. ALL HAIL THE PRESETS! Amen.

Hottest CD so far this year - hands down!

Beams was only a precursor to this great new full-length. The beats are sick, the vocals steamy - and the Presets will conquor America with this one. Modular has got some hot acts - but the Presets are my favorite. I dig the dark 80's flavor and you can just imagine being in a dark club with the volume turned WAY up - totally losing it. Killer CD. If you love some deep house, DM, and a bit of rock flavor with your synth - don't wait to get this one.

Biography

Formed: 2003 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australi

Genre: Dance

Years Active: '00s

The Presets are a pair of avant-garde Aussies who, while forging a musical path that wouldn't be unfamiliar to acts like Daft Punk, Nine Inch Nails, and the Faint, don't mind dragging disco along for the ride. Julian Hamilton (production, keyboards, vocals) and Kimberley Moyes (production, drums, programming) met in the early '90s as students at Sydney's Conservatorium of Music. Both were there to study classical music, but as they delved into the great composers, neither could forget an extracurricular...
