Getting To The Real Nitty Gritty!

OK, you think you know big band, becuase you've got Buddy Rich, Count Basie, and the Dorseys...that pretty much covers the gamit of multiple personnel bands, but wait! You ain't gotten to the real nitty-gritty of what a big band can do when it sounds like Horace Silver on steroids. Proof? Try Silver's "Sister Sadie" and if you still have breath left, move to the fact that when Herman recorded for Philips he was at his prime. For a follow up "Dear John C." will cure any doubt, that he was tops in the 60's when most big-bands were playing at the NCO club, or Holiday Inn.
This collection is genuine and worth every single penny...that's rare today!

A fine swing clarinetist, an altoist whose sound was influenced by Johnny Hodges, a good soprano saxophonist, and a spirited blues vocalist, Woody Herman's greatest significance to jazz was as the leader of a long line of big bands.
