Album Review

While In Live Concert at the Royal Albert Hall may not be Opeth’s only live album, it’s certainly their classiest. Recorded at the famous London venue, the live album features the Swedish progressive death metal masters masterfully executing a nearly three-hour set. Most notable about the live set is that Opeth chose to kick it off by performing Blackwater Park, their artistic breakthrough, in its entirety. With an amazingly tight performance and a sparklingly clear recording, In Live Concert at the Royal Albert Hall is an easy addition for metal fans. If you’ve ever wanted to hear the quintessential death metal band at work live, it won’t get any more convenient than this.

Customer Reviews

Seriously, one of the best bands ever, metal or otherwise.

I know a considerable amount of people can't get behind the "death metal" vocals, but Opeth is probably going to be remembered as one of the best bands of all time. Just look at some of their reviews, they're all great, even some of the rougher early black metal-ish stuff. This album is one of the best live recordings I've ever heard. I was at the New York edition of this very limited tour, and as astounding as that show was, this recording is pristine. And look at the content, a full set of their masterpiece and my personal favorite album, Blackwater Park. Then a whole other set consisting of songs from every other album in chronological order. Nothing will beat seeing this tour in the live setting, but this album comes damn close. Also, as mentioned in other reviews, Mikael's stage banter is very entertaining.

Amazing, simply opeth.

This is an amazing live album, and compliments the previous ones with a nice addition of live recordings. Aside from the outstanding musicianship of opeth, the excellent sound quality, and simply the grandeur of this performance (their 20th year aniversary), you should buy this album because mikael akerfeldt is insanely funny. That's right, the man may as well be a comedian. His interactions with the crowd (mostly on the second cd) made me laugh out loud numerous times.

Do yourself a favour, get this cd.

Biography

Formed: 1990 in Stockholm, Sweden

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

Brought together in Stockholm by guitarists Peter Lindgren and Mikael Åkerfeldt in 1990, Opeth added progressive influences and acoustic instrumentation to their brand of Swedish death metal. As the group progressed, it was very common for an Opeth live set to fly in several different musical directions — and an average song lasted no less than ten minutes. Impressed by their originality, Candlelight Records released their debut full-length in 1995, which was titled Orchid, and featured a rhythm...
