Album Review

The second release in Caipirinha's Architettura series, Waterloo Terminal was inspired by Nicholas Grimshaw's steel and glass structure, which lay on the U.K. end of the massive underwater Chunnel. More than merely providing the aesthetic impetus for the music, Grimshaw's Terminal provided the raw material; Tetsu scanned schematics of the building into his computer and used a software program to "convert" the picture files into sounds, with which he then composed. Tetsu's second album of mostly computer-generated music, Terminal is also more approachable than the previous Psycho-Acoustic, revealing a fascinating depth of detail the further into the recording the listener is willing to go. It's still many orders of abstraction beyond even the least rooted of his popular Fax releases, but the points of continuity are many, and Terminal more than proves Tetsu's caliber in a medium (computer music) he's only just begun to explore.
