Epic as usual.....

I nearly dropped my computer when I saw they released another album and let me say the music is wonderful as usual. I give birth in a matter of weeks; my husband and I joke around that this should be our background music at the hospital and give him an epic entrance to the world.

I'm 17, didn't know classical music could be so beastin

This album is boss! Exactly what I was looking for.

Two Steps from Hell is often considered to be one of the better Epica groups out there these days. They have numerous works in circulation within the business and their previous album Invincible was stellar and featured numerous standout works such as "Freedom Fighters", "Heart of Courage", "Protectors of Earth", and "To Glory". When it was announced they were releasing a new album, I was suitably excited. However, what we have here is disappointing. Not bad, but certainly not up to their usual standards.

The major problem in modern epica is the tendency to devolve to blasting percussion and choral beats for every song. While cool and empowering at first, the songs eventually start to blend together and they lose their identity. Most of all, what made them extraordinary in the first place is lost. Groups such as Epic Score do this frequently, and while some may enjoy it, it overstays its welcome for me. Two Steps avoided this in its first album with many of the pieces I already mentioned. Each have a distinct melody and rythm to them that gives them their own identity. I can easily point out which song is which if you were to play them to me. With Archangel, however, this is sadly not the case. Although there are a few songs such as the title piece, Love and Loss, and the woefully unappareciated Nero. However, as I listened to this album I noticed a saddening trend. I didn't know when one song ended and another began. They all quiet simply sounded the same. While I expect this from certain other epic groups, there is a level of quality expected from a group of Two Steps caliber, and its disappointing to see this happen.
