Album Review

Aretha sings solo and plays piano on these spectacular recordings made at father C.L. Franklin's church in 1956.

Great Stuff

This stuff is from Aretha's early years before most of her mainstream success... This is the true Aretha singing at her best, and sounded incredible. If you like R&B or soul at all, you really need to listen to its roots and this stuff is it. Definitely get this album... and its on sale!

doesn't get much better than Aretha

If you like Aretha's later work, you gotta listen to this album. She recorded this around the age of 15 and her voice is just as amazing as it is in her soul albums that would come later. Definitely listen to both parts of "Precious Lord" bc it displays the true power of her voice. Aretha is the queen of soul but her roots and her energy come from gospel.

Yet as much of an international institution...
