Editors’ Notes

On his 33rd studio album, Prince shuffles the deck of his immense aesthetic vocabulary, delivering an array of sounds and themes that's scattered but always captivating. "Art Official Cage" mixes Daft Punk's funky post-disco, rapping, choral interludes and vague sci-fi dialogue. "The Gold Standard" sounds like a mutant version of "Kiss"; "Breakfast Can Wait" is a characteristically outsize seduction. The album is messy but delectably Prince: bedroom talk intermingles with rants about technology, underscored by funk-guitar pyrotechnics, falsetto bursts, and chunky bass. The sweeping, introspective, and melodically memorable "Breakdown" isn't to be missed.

Mr. Nelson... Mr. Nelson....

I have been on this funky journey with Prince for a long, long time. He has outlasted every other "artist" out there and continues to outperform and shine better than anyone else... current or past. Prince is so innovative, that many of his "old" fans from the 80's era can't keep up with him. They will say things like his music today is not as good as the past... that is pure 100% crap. His music has grown into something much more than just a dance tune on the top 40. His music enlightens, it takes you on a journey through sound and words.. it transcends. Those who use the same ol' I miss the old Prince need to find the Bieber forums and stay there. Those who call people like me "sheep" do not comprehend real music by real musicians... they're only concern is what is going to make them feel like the summer '84. What a waste... people flood to his concerts and he has the right and freedom to do whatever he wants. Other muscians who actually pick up an instrument, like myself, understand the genius in what he does with every song. A real musician is not making music to please the masses like the Illuminati "thugs" out there... real musicians live for the creative process... Prince has captured this process in one hand and let the music flow out of the other hand. Those who rate his new music low or say it's not as "good" need to pick up a guitar and try to keep up... Go PRINCE It's gonna b a Purple Fall after all...

The Genius is Back

Amazing! Genius! This is gonna be a funky kind of fall with all this new killer Prince music!

Meh

one of the most amazing musicians ever… but it’s been a very long time since we’ve had albums worth listening to… These two songs Iv’e heard are… ok for album tracks. neither would have been good enough to make the cut on any album of his before 1991. We all know it, I’ll say it.

Few artists have created a body of work as rich and varied as Prince. During the '80s, he emerged as one of the most singular talents of the rock & roll era, capable of seamlessly tying together pop, funk, folk, and rock. Not only did he release a series of groundbreaking albums; he toured frequently, produced albums and wrote songs for many other artists, and recorded hundreds of songs that still lie unreleased in his vaults. With each album he released, Prince has shown remarkable stylistic...
