About Marc Hellner

b. 13 June 1974, Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA. Far from your run-of-the-mill musician Hellner has an impressive and varied musical repertoire. Not only a solo artist he regularly tours as a member of Chicago-based electonica group L’Altra, while also being a member of Pulseprogramming, an electronic group combining visual and audio artistry in a unique style.

Hellner released his solo debut, Marriages, in 2005. The album explored his love of acoustic instruments and used considerably less electronic effects than his previous group work. Musicians such as Joshua Eustis from Telefon Tel Aviv contributed to the album, while outside influences from artists such as Howard Skempton were also apparent, with a classical minimalist inclination creeping into the music. Hellner’s husky vocals worked like an echo, as if a mere afterthought alongside the ambient instrumentals. Marriages flawlessly combined tracks that varied from acoustic to synthesized tinged with an atmospheric style. Hellner’s music is undeniably haunting, straddling the line between pop, electronica and classical.
