Winifred Phillips outclasses Lorne Balfe's ACIII soundtrack album
After being disappointed with Balfe's Assassin's Creed III soundtrack album, I was pretty down about it since one of my favorite aspects in games are the soundtracks. Then I listened to the samples from Phillips' Liberation album and was wowed! I currently put well over 5 hours into the actual game and the soundtrack is brilliant. It's just as good to listen to on its own as it's good to hear in-game. My favorite tracks are 'Liberation Main Theme' which is hands down one of the best main themes to any game. 'Stealth' does a great job at making you feel like a bada*s Assassin sneaking in the shadows, waiting for the right moment to pounce on your unsuspecting prey. 'Virtual Pursuit' has a Bourne feel to it, which is perfect for high speed chase sequences.
In the end, if you're a fan of good soundtracks, a fan of the Assassin's Creed games, or just a person with a great taste in music, then this is a definite must-buy. You owe it to yourself to at least give the tracks a test-drive.
Winifred Phillips takes his place with Jesper Kyd and Jeremy Soule with this album. His music is both fast & loud, and beautiful & haunting (by turns) For those of you who rely largly on music to choose a good game from a mediocre one - I believe you'll like this :)
I searched iTunes for composer Winifred Phillips, and ultimately bought this soundtrack instead of the video game for which it was made, after I read a web interview with her, found while searching for PS Vita gaming tidbits in the news, and decided, you know what, I think I like this person, like what she said about music, and want to hear what she was commissioned to write for my current primary video gaming system - the PS Vita. So I did have some bias at first. Since then, I have listened to the entire album several times and have heard a few tracks dozens. Great polyrhythms, some really interesting themes and figures, not too plodding in most parts. A few of the less interesting tracks have grown on me since I first heard them. Very impressive overall.
