Album Review

To celebrate over 25 years on the industrial music scene, KMFDM collected all their best cuts on the excellent Würst and then added a disc of deeper cuts to create this set of Greatest S**t. Tracks are arranged in a non-chronological order for maximum listenability and 12” versions, single versions, or remixes are chosen if longtime leader Sascha Konietzko deems them better than the originals. Some of the tracks are just simple “edits,” most likely because of run time and the desire to have a fat track list, and while this may disappoint the purist, nothing here seems overly slashed. The Würst package was light on the liner notes but Greatest S**t comes with a fat booklet, filled with history and credits. Longtime fans should pick this one and will be rewarded with different cover art, featuring the same femme fatales as on Würst but they’re being a bit less, ahem, modest.

A Great Collection

As a long-time fan of industrial music my tastes in industrial have tended more towards Ministry,
NIN, Front 242 and Front Line Assembly, but when I heard this KMFDM double-disc package was comming out
I just had to have it as it would give me the maximum amount of KMFDM with the smallest footprint on my I-pod.
I really bought this collection more for my brother who is a BIG KMFDM fan and he loves it and has listened to it
endlessly without any complaints. The re-mastered production is great (much more bass than in the originals and all of the tracks enjoy the same level of volume (the older tracks sound as good as the newer ones).
This collection is jammed packed with music maximizing the playing time of two standard CD's. My only complaint and its a small one, is that all (or almost all) of the songs are edits and so tend to be on the short side (between 3 to 4 minutes). I'm a fan of extended remixes, say Ministry's 12" remix of 'Just One Fix' and KMFDM has its share of such remixes, but they are not found in this collection.
Overall, this is a great collection of greatest hits by a a legendary industrial band and for the casual fan its probably the only KMFDM set you'll ever need.

Awesome

There's a lot of great gems on this album. A lot of older to new songs, that are great for those new to KMFDM.

Years Active: '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

Such industrial alt-metal outfits as Nine Inch Nails and Ministry received the lion's share of press and commercial success during the '90s, but a handful of other bands slugged it out for just as long (if not longer), including KMFDM. The band's name has been the subject of countless debates among fans over the years as to what it stands for (their record company even went as far as holding a contest in 1994 for fans to submit possible meanings, resulting in more than a thousand entries), but the...
