Album Review

Released in 1994, Auf Einem Auge Blöd is the debut album from the German hip-hop trio Fettes Brot. The crew burst onto the scene with a Beastie Boys sense of humor and the anthem “Nordisch by Nature,” a Naughty by Nature tribute that doubled as an anthem for Germany’s Northern youth. This album also features the early hits “Definition Von Fett” and “Männer.”

Dubbed "Hamburg's hip-hop dinosaur" by its own members, German trio Fettes Brot is perhaps best likened to the Beastie Boys, sharing with their American counterparts a similar longevity, a comparably eclectic creative sensibility and the same white skin color. Fettes Brot (roughly, "fat bread," and a slang expression meaning "excellent hashish") formed in 1992 following the dissolution of the rap group Poets of Peeze.
