EDITORS’ NOTES

Aura Noire, the sixth full-length from Norwegian power trio Aura Noir, is a snarling mixture of Teutonic thrash and Scandinavian black metal. Led by frontman Carl-Michael Eide (also of psych-prog wizards Virus) and featuring ex-members of corpsepaint luminaries Mayhem and Immortal, the band unleashes a Venom-esque hell-storm of ripping tremolo riffs, beastly drum patterns, and infernal lyrics on “Grave Dweller,” “The Obscuration,” and “Cold Bone Grasp.” And since the album was recorded without overdubs, you can hear its violent energy and raw power in every note.
