Hopefully not a final album but if it is, it ends on a high note

This album has blown me away, especially after (in my opinion) the disappointing Silver Gymnasium. The album is very intimate and despite the guest musicians, it sounds very exposed in its sound and lyrics. The stand out track for me is Call Yourself Renee, with that beautiful ending. A shout out to Days Spent Floating as well.

Comes Indiana Through The Smoke

"Comes Indiana Through The Smoke" is masterful songwriting; I'm so deeply impressed. In a world of one-dimensional lyrics, this song beautifully tells the story of a Battleship, a man and his family, and his heroic transition into death. "Through the smoke" starts as a literal telling of the Indiana's involvement in combat at sea in the Pacific and ends as a metaphor for the great ship returning to take the man away through the smoke of the great beyond. Fantastic, moving work.

Still Shining

This could be the last Okkervil River LP. If so, then they're not ending on a dull note at all. This album is shaping up to be something truly wonderful. Okkervil River may end someday, but they'll never truly die.
