Album Review

Shirley Horn's second Verve recording consolidated the success that she had had with her previous release, I Thought About You, and resulted in her gaining a large audience for her ballad vocals and solid jazz piano playing. Performing with her usual trio (which includes bassist Charles Ables and drummer Steve Williams) and guest tenor Buck Hill on five of the 13 tracks, Horn is heard in definitive form throughout these studio sessions. Highlights include "Beautiful Friendship," "Baby, Baby All the Time," "This Can't Be Love," "I Wanna Be Loved," "But Beautiful," "Get out of Town," and "It Could Happen to You."

Majestic!

This is a beautiful album, the song choices are unique ,her version of these songs are genious and Shirely Horn's delivery is emotional, personal, full of passion. It's like hearing these songs for the first time. She is an amazing vocalist with a style of her own, who 's attention to the lyrics and the sincere emotion she pours into every song is deeply moving. She's one the most experessive and sultry jazz vocalists. One of her best albums!

Mama was right-simply the best!

My mother is a big Shirley Horn fan and now I am following in her footsteps. Beautiful music the way it is supposed to come across-as moving and expressive. My only complaint is that sometimes it makes me tear up. It saddens me to think that this woman's talent was underrated. I only hope that my generation and those to come will appreciate Ms. Horn. Miles Davis certainly did, as she was one of his very favorites. Here's to life Shirley! And thank you......

Thihs is one of the best Jazz albums you can get in my humble opinion.

This album swings hard. Shirley Horn and her band are incredible. If you don't know whether or not you like Jazz, get this and the answer will be yes. Highly appropriate for most any person who appreciates superb jazz vocals and music.
