iTunes Review

Recorded at home and self-released after three previous albums earned critical praise but little public attention, White Ladder was chosen by Dave Matthews to be the U.S. debut of his ATO record label. The album became a breakthrough for Gray and catapulted the English singer-songwriter into public consciousness, with its warm, aching folk songs and electronic shadings underpinning the romantic wanderlust of tunes such as "This Year's Love" or the stunning "Nightblindness." Gray has been accurately compared to Van Morrison, with whom he shares a vocal timbre as well as improvisatory and spiritual dimensions. The joy in Gray's music is found most clearly in how he tersely cuts one note and expands another, reveling in the drama created by holding and releasing breath. White Ladder is a searching collection of soulful tunes perfect for late-night listening.

A must have

I have been a big fan of David Gray's from the beginning . I don't know people couldn't love his music; he's a soulful artist with a unique voice. If you appreciate all kinds of music this is a must have for any music collection. "Babylon, Please forgive me, Sail Away and Say Hello Say Goodbye" are bit a few gems on this album.

This CD rarely left my car for a very long time!

White Ladder was my first introduction to David Gray and I couldn’t have been more thrilled. The album has a unique sound and showcases Gray’s song writing beautifully. A little electronica boosts some of the songs out of the “singsongy” category and into the soundscape stratosphere. The bones of the White Ladder are solid song writing and catchy lyrics and chorus lines that will have you singing. The album, although, has its bouncy melodies, is not “happy”. If you are in need of a good cry, try this. If you are in need of an amazing record to fill your soul, try this. If you need a solid go to album that you can play in the car, at home, in the shower, while cooking dinner or just about anything else, try this. You won’t be disappointed! I promise!

White Ladder

In my mind, one of the 10 best albums of all time. Period. End of disscussion. I hope and pray he comes back to Cincinnati
