Bach: Sonatas & Partitas for Solo Violin

Bach: Sonatas & Partitas for Solo Violin

Long before the invention of multitrack recording, Bach raised to perfection the art of creating complex polyphonic lines for solo violin with his six partitas and sonatas. Isabelle Faust began her journey to record all of the composer’s violin music with these matchless works. She launched the project with intensely lyrical accounts of three of the full set, marking the start of her journey with an engrossing interpretation of the Partita No. 2 in D minor and the 64 variations that form its monumental “Ciaccona.” Faust’s concentration never wavers for an instant. Her heavenly artistry and jaw-dropping technical command work in harness to project each line of the Sonata No. 3’s “Fuga” with the unanimity and richness of a quartet of violins, while her oceanic imagination penetrates deep beneath the surface of each piece.
