Customer Reviews

All the packaging but doesn't come with the goods!

Despite all the stars this album has received from other reviewers, this album offers nothing special than any of the thousands of club acts could bring. I suspect Matt Dusk has climbed onto the jazz standard band wagon and, lucky for him, there is room for more male vocalists. But he does not have the vocal phrasing skills, arranging or depth of musical talents of Diana Krall (Canada), Dianne Reeves, Harry Conniff, Jr. (U.S.), or Jamie Cullum (U.K.) or the velvet voice of Michael Buble (Canada), or the relaxed style of Kurt Elling (U.S.) or the unique clarity of Stacey Kent (U.S.), or the diversity of spirit conveyed by Eva Cassidy (U.S. b. Germany) in her memorable recordings. "She could sing anything and make it sound like the only music that mattered" according to the Washington Post. Every vocalist must find their own voice in order for their music to last. It's not enough to sound like someone else. Sadly, Matt has all the packaging but he doesn't come with the goods!

The Perfect Album

10 months after Back In Town was released in Canada, Dusk's sophmore album finally hit the USA. Some amazing original songs such as "Back In Town" and "All About Me" compliment the standards such as "More", "The Best is Yet to Come", and "As Time Goes By". Matt trumps Michael Bubble and Jamie Cullum. His voice is fantastic. This album was recorded at the same Capitol record studio where Frank Sinatra recorded many of his classics. This CD is a must have for anybody who enjoys Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Bing Crosby, Michael Bubble, etc.

Dusk, great voice great songs

This guy he's got a great voice, his rendition of On the Street Where You Live is my new favorite. A little Sinatra a little Dino and a little Dusk thats all you need.

Genre: Jazz

Years Active: '00s

Few artists manage to secure a 42-piece string section for their debut recording, but Canadian Matt Dusk is no stranger to big bands. The York University Oscar Peterson scholarship winner released four independent records while simultaneously performing with his own eight-piece outfit, playing nearly 20 shows a month in the clubs of Toronto. Seemingly predestined for a career in classical and opera, Dusk changed his tune at the age of 18 after hearing Tony Bennett and Sarah Vaughan. His newfound...
