Album Review

Probably more than ever in the history of rock, the early 21st century has marked an era where your looks are just as important as your music. And it doesn't take 20/20 vision to see that Todd Carey is sure to make female teen pop fans of swoon with his mix of good looks and pop hooks, especially on his 2007 effort, Watching Waiting. Think a mix of John Mayer and Dave Matthews, and you're not far off from the style that Carey specializes in. It also turns out that Carey is one heck of an emotional gentleman, whether it be using the "'f' word" while describing a relationship gone sour on "Back Off Baby" or baring his soul on the ballads "Watching Waiting" and "King of Cliché." And the acoustic guitar funk of the album opening "Ain't Got Love" is a sticky sweet pop tune that sounds custom-made for the top of the pop charts. Craving easy-to-digest pop tunes with a witty edge? Todd Carey may be your man with Watching Waiting.

Todd Carey has a terrific voice and fantastic songs. This album is a must.

A Masterpiece

I just stumbled upon the re-release of this 2007 LP. Hearing it again now emboldens me to apply the word "Classic" here. It's rare to hear this type of energy, song craft, and performance burst forth from a debut record. The production is class A.
Listening now, I hear the 1,2,3 Pop Punch gems of "Ain't Got Love", "Back off Baby", and "Friday Night". Moving from love anthem, to a song about stalkers, to the tag line "Friday night don't start till Saturday Morning".
The 4th track, "Smile" features vocals from superstar Sara Bareilles, and the title track "Watching Waiting" continues to be one of my all time favorite songs. "Falling from Grace" channels raw emotion, and "King of Cliche'" hints at Todd's little known guitar mastery. The record also feature a remake of "Photograph". Finally the album sends you on your way with the beautiful and fitting "Goodbye to Another One".

Do yourself a favor...

...and download this! It's a re-release from a few years ago, but still very relevant. The first three tracks are three of my all-time favorite songs. One warning. These tunes are very catchy and you may find yourself singing them all day long.
