Great New Songs

The song "Not Gonna Be The One" should have been a single. It is one of the best songs she has recorded. Check it out!

Some "Essentials" are missing!

First of all, let me say that the CD single "I Need Love" is worth seeking out because it has a dance club remix more upbeat than the album version included here AND it has a remix of "The Rumour" which also was unjustly ignored by Top 40 radio but squeaked onto the dance charts. As for this compilation, where is "Heart Attack", and how come no compilation of hers EVER includes her hit duet with Andy Gibb (which came out just before Xanadu)? And if they were going to include "Twist of Fate" they should have also included "Take a Chance" which made the Adult Contemporary chart and is a far-less-dated sounding duet with John Travolta than "Summer Nights" (not to mention "Livin' in Desperate Times" which was as rockin' as Olivia ever got and had an awesome video). Finally, this album failed to include "Soul Kiss"--her final Top 40 hit (peaked at #20). After "Heart Attack" it's the most conspicuous omission. It's as if they didn't want to remind people how Amnerican pop radio started ignoring her music at the end of the 1980's--just as they were about to ignore the single "I Need Love" (and its follow up, "Deeper Than A River" - Diane Warren-penned tune that should have been a HUGE adult contemporary hit). All this, yet they managed to include "Deeper Than the Night"--righting the wrong of not including it on 1982's "Olivia's Greatest Hits Vol. 2" Now THAT album was an essential!

Great hits package plus four.

What a time it was for Olivia and her fans. Breast Cancer is was so differant then. I thought she was going to die.

Years Active: '60s, '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

Olivia Newton-John skillfully made the transition from popular country-pop singer to popular mainstream soft rock singer, becoming one of the most successful vocalists of the '70s in the process. The transition itself wasn't much of a stretch -- her early-'70s hits "I Honestly Love You" and "Have You Never Been Mellow" were country only in the loosest sense -- yet the extent of her success in both fields was remarkable. As a country singer, her first five charting singles all went Top Ten in the...
