Album Review

Chronicling the early years of Christian pop-punkers Relient K, The First Three Gears collects their first three albums in one set. Featuring Relient K (2000), The Anatomy of Tongue in Cheek (2001), and Two Lefts Don’t Make a Right...But Three Do (2003), the three-disc compilation takes listeners on a journey through the band’s formative releases with a few surprises along the way. Included on the first two albums are a handful of bonus tracks from the Creepy EP and the A.D.D. EP, with acoustic versions of “Softer to Me” and “Pressing On,” as well as some demo and live tracks. While this collection makes for a great introduction to Relient K, the limited amount of extras (just five bonus tracks and a booklet with photos of the band) means this set will probably only appeal to the serious collectors among their fan base.

Awesome deal.

You can't go wrong with this. Relient K has been a prominent musical influence in my life and this is where it all started.

I noticed that this was on itunes a couple of months ago, and since I had never heard any of these songs by them I got it. I have listened to these albums so many times I've lost count. I love all of their stuff, their older stuff and their newer stuff. All in all this is the best deal for these three albums and then some extras. Relient K is now my favorite band ever!

Great Deal.

I never owned their first albums, and I really only got interested with Five Score. So, I went to buy the first 3 and found this. It practically saved me the price of one album, and getting free Relient K is fantastic.

Canton, Ohio's Relient K formed in 1998 and joined the parade of Christian punk-pop artists (MxPx, Ghoti Hook, Slick Shoes, etc.) with their self-titled 2000 debut, mixing catchy melodies and snotty attitude with spiritual concerns. The record was produced by dc Talk guitarist Mark Townsend, and the band was comprised of vocalist/guitarist/pianist Matt Thiessen, guitarist Matthew Hoopes, bassist Brian Pittman, and drummer Stephen Cushman. David Douglas joined up in place of Cushman by the year's...
