Editors’ Notes

Marc Bolan was a superstar in England, beloved by rockers and little kids alike. In America, T. Rex—basically a vehicle for Bolan's songs and glam-icon persona—was the harbinger of one much adored classic rocker, "Bang a Gong (Get It On)." It was spun off Electric Warrior, one of the most distinctive albums of pre-punk British rock ever. Bolan came on like a sexy sprite, crooning beneath a bebop moon and throwing his hands in the air in exasperation to announce that "Life's a Gas." The record's ad hoc feeling, mix of electric and acoustic guitars, and Bolan's irresistible vocals (he's like some glitter beatnik babbling his way through "Rip Off") make it a statement both of its time and way beyond it. This special edition adds six bonus tracks to the original, including the immaculate "Raw Ramp," plus an entertaining contemporary interview with Bolan.

A New Generation of Punks...

For all of those young people out there who really are into punk rock music and who want to understand how punk even became a reality then you should listen to this album. This album is pure rock and roll and its raw, fun, and clever. Give it a chance because words can not really justify how enjoyable this record is to listen to. It's just a fun rock and roll record. Period.

Initially a British folk-rock combo called Tyrannosaurus Rex, T. Rex was the primary force in glam rock, thanks to the creative direction of guitarist/vocalist Marc Bolan (born Marc Feld). Bolan created a deliberately trashy form of rock & roll that was proud of its own disposability. T. Rex's music borrowed the underlying sexuality of early rock & roll, adding dirty, simple grooves and fat distorted guitars, as well as an overarching folky/hippie spirituality that always came through the clearest...
