Album Review

Before a definitive multi-disc box set was issued in the 1990s, there were two single-album volumes of Barry White hits released by Casablanca in the 1970s. The first was the best, with sweeping versions of such disco classics as "Can't Get Enough of Your Love, Babe" and "You're the First, the Last, My Everything." White's productions and arrangements were never as intricate as they seemed, but his booming baritone and romantic dialogue sounded convincing when underscored by the lush backgrounds. If you only want a little Barry White, this is the album to grab.

A couple catchy songs, but mostly garbage

I have to admit that I really do like tracks 1 and 3. I like them more than i want to. They're fun songs with really catchy percussion. That's as far as it goes, though. Even those two hits are more fun than good and come in only at 3 star quality for his two best songs.

Most of the songs are just cheesy and narrow-minded cliches focused solely, as is all of R&B, on one thing. As if there's nothing in the world to EVER think about than getting your girl in to bed. Totally one sided and dumb. What's worse, it was creepy coming from him. You got this 300 lb gross guy with a greasy goatee and pinky rings squeezing his fat sausage fingers. It was the total opposite of what his songs were obsessed with.

The ratings on this album are terrible. It's one of the most annoying things in music to have a "Greatest Hits" album full of throwaways and filler. Far too many artists have hits albums that should have "hits ep's" at best. There's two 3 star songs and the rest are throwaways.

Nothing Like Him.

Truly one of a kind.
Good music Good feelings.

Say the name Barry White and you'd be hard pressed to follow it with the name of any other recording artist with such a huge, cross-sectional following. He was at home appearing on Soul Train, guesting with a full band on The Today Show, and appearing in cartoon form in various episodes of The Simpsons. During the '70s, Dinah Shore devoted a full hour of her daily syndicated Dinah! show to White. While there was a period where Barry White wasn't releasing records or making the pop charts, he did...
