...this album is a hidden treasure, particularly because of the Carisi pieces. Moon Taj, particularly, is one of the most beautiful jazz compositions you're going to find, full of wit, intellect, and swing, and Carisi uses some musical elements that are nowhere to be found elsewhere in jazz. Although the Taylor charts are very interesting in themselves, especially in light of his later output, the Carisi tracks alone are worth the price of the album. And the performances here are amazing! For such unusual material, this band swings and puts beautiful life into these (clearly difficult) pieces. There's not a cold or dry moment on this album. I've listened to Into The Hot for 15 years, and I'm still discovering new interesting things in it. If you are at all interested in great composing and great playing, this is an endlessly rewarding record.

Gil Wasn't There At the Time

Nice album, but it turns out that the man wasn't even in the studio when this was recorded! True, it was Gil's orchestra and many of the charts were those he used when the
band performed live, but no Gil! Having said that, this is still a nice album, and one of my favorites. So buy it already!!!
