Keeping It Moving

So, Madlib goes with a bunch of friends to Brazil, where they meet with pioneering musical greats and new bloods alike. He befriends drummer Mamao and they make a beautiful piece of work together, as Mamao lends over an hour's worth of drums to Lib, or Otis Jackson. YOU SHOULD ALREADY KNOW THE DEAL-if not, once those drums were 'chopped and skewed' (i'm copywriting this) they decide to call the collaboration Jackson Conti. The rest is history, literally. Madlib continues to musically delve into obscure creativity only to re-emerge with Nguzo Saba or fresh fruit, harvested out of the most genius of places. Madlib is more Jazz troubadore than bedroom beatmaker and he shows us on this latest release, where he not only sequences, edits, programs, etcetera-But also accompanies Mamao's excellence with his own live musicianship. As his late great friend probably would have suggested "TURN IT UP"!

Madlib continues to push himself to new heights! Unlike any other Madlib album! Love how they added female vocals to Upa Neguinho from Yesterdays Universe.

Madlib & Mamao...can't go wrong

the story of how this album was made is the story of how music should be made. A group of Hiphop (and beyond) musicians travels to far away Brazil, links up with musicians from Brazil, hang out, record, and make a classic album that breaks new ground...and they make enough money to keep creation's circle going. Buy this album so that artists like this can keep keepin on.

Ivan "Mamão" Conti was a founding member of the pop-samba trio Azymuth, and an accomplished percussionist boasting collaborations with Brazilian music's finest, such as Milton Nascimento and Gal Costa.
