Battle Ballad

A hauntingly beautiful, yet very sad tear jerker ballad. Love the cello arrangement by Tina Guo. May the God of Abraham, Moses and the 12 apostles bless our troops!!! Thank you for this song Di Lee!!

Consuming tale of survival

It requires courage to take on a soulful story song about the return of someone from combat, or peril from an epic tragedy like 9-11, or abuse from another. And Di Lee has acknowleged in interviews that this song was written with all all those in mind. But it also takes personal bravado, with "commercial risk" to perform a song, though accompanied by superb cellist Tina Guo, that has a title that is not referenced in the lyrics, an "evergreen" song. So with Battle Ballad, (please write it down), we have a wounded veteran returning to his lover and we are assured beyond doubt she welcomes him with warm and loving arms. And she points out how the sunlight shines on their pillows. But what of him? As you feel the desolation and chill within him, and her yearning for him to gain a life renewed, her phrase "dark and cold, snowflakes keep on fallin', soon they'' bury me" forecasts a heartfelt ending about a consuming tale of survival that has impacted thousands of men and women throughout history.
