I just saw Battlehooch last night in our home town and can I just say that I have been hiding under a rock! How did I not know about them until last night?! Their stage presence is unbelievable and their songs are just simply amazing. Definitely see them live, and buy their albums!
Where's the Battle? Or the Hooch for that matter?
OK, let me just start by saying that Piecechow is an incredible album, and one of the best albums of this new Bay Area "Rebirth." But this is a major comedown from the exciting quirkiness of the band's previous release. Pat Smith sounds as weird as usual, as do Tom Hurlbut's wonky horns, but much of the album is just based on a single template. "Only Baby Sharks," "Honest," and "Human Ram" (especially Human Ram) are all good songs, but the others just sound too similar for comfort. Has this tropical hot dog lost its toppings? I hope better for the band's next release, and hope they fire their creative juices back up again on further recordings.
