EDITORS’ NOTES

Two conflicting sides are unified on this Canadian country singer's debut LP. On the ripping title track, Meghan Patrick brings some serious, sassy punch to lines like, “I can be as pretty as a wildflower petal/A little bit of angel/Double shot of devil.” The Chad Kroeger-cowritten “Bow Chicka Wow Wow” is a revved-up honky-tonk stomper about sizing up the perfect guy. But Patrick strikes a winning balance throughout, getting tender and pensive on the relationship exploration “Still Loving You,” and considering morning-after regret over gorgeous fiddle and pedal steel on the soaring ballad “I Won’t Drink."

Customer Reviews

very very well done

BigForkBrad,

Meghan is fantastic. Her voice is so well suited for any style country song; whether it's a ballad or an uptempo make you wanna move she pulls it off perfectly. Personal favorites are 'Who Knew' and 'Thanks to You', yet at's all good on this album.

About Meghan Patrick

Canadian country singer Meghan Patrick comes across as a bit of a hybrid of Miranda Lambert and Shania Twain: a cowgirl with spunk mitigated by girl-next-door cheer. All this was evident on Grace & Grit, her 2016 debut for Warner Music Canada, but prior to that she demonstrated her progressive bluegrass roots as the lead singer in the Stone Sparrows.

Meghan Patrick is a native of Bowmanville, Ontario. She learned to play guitar at an early age before picking up the banjo, and she played both in the Stone Sparrows, a progressive acoustic quartet based in Toronto. The Stone Sparrows independently released an EP and an LP prior to their 2013 split, after which Patrick set out on her own as a solo act. That year, she won KX96's Star Search competition, which led to a publishing deal with Ole Music in 2014. Patrick signed to Warner Music Canada in 2015 and began working on her full-length debut with a host of collaborators, including Vince Gill, Justin Niebank, and Chris Baseford. The first single, "Bow Chicka Wow Wow" (one of several songs on the album co-written by Nickelback leader Chad Kroeger), saw release in February 2016, two months before the arrival of her first album, the aforementioned Grace & Grit. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
