iTunes Review

Though he hadn’t yet made the move to Blue Note, this jazz singer and composer’s second album for the Motéma imprint showed that he was a star on the rise. These mostly self-penned songs show off Porter’s command of varied vocalizations: He sings the warmly humanist lyrics of “Painted On Canvas” with searing intensity, while inhabiting “Be Good (Lion’s Song)” with a sense of romantic chill. And his scatting on “Bling Bling” adds to the interpretive range. His band is excellent, and Porter’s choice of covers is also inspired.

When I first heard to song Our Love I new Gregory
Porter would be my new companion. Fair enough, as I am listening to this album I just wish I had nothing else to do besides enjoy it for hours.... Excellent band, fantastic voice, and enchanting lyrics.

Melodic and Heartfelt

I love Gregory Porter. He is an awesome talent. His voice soothes me and moves me all at the same time. Sometimes when I think I want to listen to him, I know I’m going to cry, but sometimes I listen and sometimes I won’t. Buy everything he makes. You will be highly entertained and moved.
