Editors’ Notes

Nils Lofgren has the kind of voice that conveys sweetness, sadness, and gritty rock joy in equal measure, and the songs on his 1975 debut solo album succeed the same way. Nostalgia-flecked pop tunes (“Back It Up,” “The Sun Hasn’t Set on This Boy Yet”) rub against little anthems to hard knocks (“Can’t Buy a Break,” “Rock and Roll Crook”), while others show the guitarist/songwriter’s pin-pricked rock ’n’ roll heart (“Two by Two,” and the Keith Richards nod “Keith Don’t Go

Customer Reviews

Finally!

Long out of print on CD, Nils first solo LP after leaving Grin is one of his best. Some of these songs are still performed in his live set - they have held up after over 30 years and still sound fresh. Great writing, great playing. Do yourself a favor and buy this!

In my top ten of all-time

This is a great record, period. Piano, guitars, originals and covers. Nils never again found the perfect groove like he did on this one.

Fat Man!!

This is a FANTASTIC album! Had it on vinyl when it was scarce and wore_it_out. This was the first CD I ever bought back when I started buying/collecting CDs. This album was the reason I bought a CD player. It's GREAT rock/pop from a REAL guitar-hero of old. Do yourself a favor. Buy this, and then hunt down Lofgren's 1975 live/studio performance at the Record Plant in Sausalito (pssst, try Wolfgang's Vault). Wow!!

For much of his professional rock & roll career, Nils Lofgren has been known as the lead guitarist for Bruce Springsteen's E-Street Band — the guy who replaced Steven Van Zandt in 1984 and stayed on after Little Steven returned to the fold. Prior to the E-Street Band, Lofgren was a member of Neil Young's backing band Crazy Horse, and these associations have tended to dominate any mention of the guitarist's career, as any support for two legendary singer/songwriters would. But take away...
