About Tess Roby

A classically trained musician and photographer, Tess Roby makes an explorative, pensive brand of indie rock. Born in Toronto and based in Montreal, Roby spent eight years in the Canadian Children's Opera Company before experimenting with guitars, synths, and drum machines from her father's recording studio for her solo work. A reference to an 18th century watch tower called Ashurst's Beacon in Dalton, England, her debut album Beacon was written in 2015 following the death of her father, who was from the area. Recorded by Tess along with her brother Eliot Roby, it was released by the Italians Do It Better label in 2018. ~ Marcy Donelson
