iTunes Review

Stimulated by the pulse of late-’70s Manhattan, the Stones dove into the city’s musical subcultures and emerged with takes on disco (“Miss You”), punk (“Shattered”), and country (“Far Away Eyes”). Cheekiness is half the fun of Some Girls, but the other half is pure heart, especially the scrappy self-portrait of “Before They Make Me Run” and a twangy barroom cover of The Temptations’ “Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me).” Sexy, scruffy, but radiant, “Beast of Burden” is the centerpiece of an album on which the group’s creative juices just flow.

Customer Reviews

Outstanding

There is not a bad song in the bunch. Fantastic album that is a statement on the end of the 1970’s. There is no mistaking the beginning notes of Miss You, those few notes tell you that you are in for great listening experience. Before They Make me Run is my favorite.

Great album

I only commented to hopefully offset the idiot that voted 3 stars

Overrated the most out of all their music

If it were not for Mick Jagger's vocals I might not have recognized this was the stones!!! Keith's has a style that is usually immediately recognizable even at his most high and rock bottom in the 70s when the stones felt lazy (see Black and Blue) even when the rest of the music felt like their was not much energy left (Its only rock n roll album). Here he and the rest of band feel like they were taking notes on whatever was charting or making an impact on pop music. You can hear mostly disco with glam rock and early punk sprinkled in to give it a cheap edge. Yes that cheap edge does say a lot and always has about the average American fan, this is their most successful work in the United States.

By the time the Rolling Stones began calling themselves the World's Greatest Rock & Roll Band in the late '60s, they had already staked out an impressive claim on the title. As the self-consciously dangerous alternative to the bouncy Merseybeat of the Beatles in the British Invasion, the Stones had pioneered the gritty, hard-driving blues-based rock & roll that came to define hard rock. With his preening machismo and latent maliciousness, Mick Jagger became the prototypical rock frontman, tempering...
