Editors’ Notes

Hard to believe it's already been a decade since UK label BBE (Barely Breaking Even) put out their exceptional Beat Generation series, highlighting hip-hip producer royalty like Pete Rock, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Marley Marl, and J Dilla. Though technically ten tracks, this is really a glorified single, featuring two tracks off 2001's excellent Petestrumentals release. "Nothin Lesser" showcases New York crew the Un, while the Placebo-sampling "Give It To Y'all" features Roc Marciano and Trife. Though far from household names (then or now), the MCs are solid on both joints, but it's the Soul Brother #1 who really shines, treating us to great beats loaded with his audio trademarks of smooth horns, dusty drums, and quality filter use.

Ayo, this sincere hip hop right here. Straight Classic Ish. I look at all the new stuff on itunes hip hop and its like a bargin bin trynna find some sincere artistry. I like some of these new artist, dont get me wrong but most of them is ALL HYPE. none stop songs about how much weed, chicks, and money you got. That is not real life, not for them (they gotta work and deal with problems too) not for us the fans. Support real music!!
