Customer Reviews

If you're not familiar with Subsignal, you probably should be especially if you've listened to Sieges Even in the past. Sieges Even reincarnated, sort of. The elements of their previous band are evident enough just based off of lead singer's Arno Menses remarkable voice. Why Sieges Even broke up I have no idea, but am glad that Arno reformed with this band. A great album delivered by Arno and band mates and there is nothing disappointing here worth noting. But, as I have said and I'll repeat myself here, if you liked Sieges Even then you will be thoroughly pleased with this well thought out first release from Subsignal.

Beautiful & Monstrous

The title of this release say it all. To have the ability to create music that is technical, yet palatable at the same time is a rare gift-it is in fact Beautiful and Monstrous. Too often music that is technical is also sort of stiff. It just seems as though it doesn't breath. That is not the case here. These guys play odd time signatures for us musicians, and then manage to interweave melody and harmony lines that leave a tatoo on our musical senses. I'm already humming one of the melody lines. The music is also dynamic, going from classical guitar solos to smokin electric guitar and synth solos. I've listened to this release one time, and I already love it. Great work Subsignal!! I hope you guys are around for a long time.

Great Stuff

I'm a professional musician (keys, vocals) and a fan of prog in most of it's forms, but I find most of it to be pretentious and overwrought. So when I find a band that treads the line as well as Subsignal does, I get a little excited. The best neo-prog bands bring the best of a variety of styles to their music, and Subsignal does this as wel as anyone out there right now. I'm really looking forward to the second album, due out in Sept 2011, and I'm going to look up the earlier band efforts by the various players as well. Just listen to the lead track and you'll see what I mean.

Too bad they're German, that means it's unlikely I'll see them in the Pacific Northwest of the US anytime soon.
