iTunes Review

Like the Dave Matthews Band, Big Head Todd & The Monsters built their following by consistently touring the college circuit and allowing their laid-back, free-flowing jams to spread the word. As a result, their studio albums have often showed only the band’s restrained side. One can hear hints of their musical virtuosity in any of the grooves that surface here, but the cover of Howlin’ Wolf’s “Smokestack Lightnin’” shows where the band is capable of going. The band doesn’t need to completely immerse itself in gritty guitar licks to get its point across. The mellow sway of “Beautiful” and the easeful flow of “Muhammad Ali” prove they can switch it up at will. Perhaps most appealing is how they so naturally fit the gait of the Rolling Stones’ “Beast of Burden,” as if it had been written specifically for them. “Back to the Garden” is more in line with their modern-hippie atmospherics, while “Happiness Is” tightens it up for a chance at pop radio with tight harmonies and a chorus designed to stick in your mind.

Better and Better

This is funky and full of soul, in contrast to the rootsier sound of their last album. If you like BHTM you might as well get it because you'll dig it.

It's Great! Download it!

The band that keeps it so interesting has made a gorgeous cd here. It's happy and sweet and quite Beautiful.
Todd's sentiments reach your core and then they party with it.

BHTM continues to ROCK

What a solid album. Great mix of blues, and rock. Colorado Rocks, good job TPM on another great album.

During the late '80s and early '90s, Big Head Todd & the Monsters (the Colorado-based trio of guitarist/keyboard player Todd Park Mohr, bassist Rob Squires, and drummer Brian Nevin) built their audience through constant touring, playing college towns across the country. With these tours, they built a solid fan base before they had even signed to a major label. Although they released a number of records, they weren't quite able to transfer the live appeal of their laid-back, slightly jazzy blues-based...
