Amazing! Amazing!

I absolutely love it! I am astounded that iTunes is showing this classical master piece on the front page;) I Highly recommend this cd.

I've been listening to classical music for decades. Beethoven, naturally, is one of my favorites. The one thing you should always remember about buying classical music is NEVER BUY A COMPILATION. Classical music compilations are great as they give the listener a general feel for the composer's work, but they don't capture each individual performance in their entirety. Here's an example. Beethoven's Symphonies 5 & 7, conducted by Carlos Kleiber, is a masterpiece as both symphonies are performed in their entirety, and it's just an overall fantastic recording. To truly get into classical music one must move towards purchasing an entire performance, not just handing over a few bucks for a mismatched compilation package.

There is, however, an exception to said rule. If you do decide to go with a greatest hits album of Beethoven's, look up the soundtrack to the film Immortal Beloved. Not only is the movie good, but the music conducted by Sir Georg Solti is breathtaking. And you can say you didn't purchase a compilation as it is a soundtrack.

All in all, I give this album three out of five stars. The quality is good, the track selection is good, and Barenboim does a decent job of conducting the orchestra.
