A Very Fine Performance

These piano sonatas are among Beethoven's best and showcase just how deeply he rethought the genre. You need to listen to the piano sonatas of his predecessors to fully appreciate Beethoven's innovations in form, harmony, and depth of expression. Beethoven stood with one foot in the Classical period and the other in the Romantic, and although Barenboim is not the most technically precise pianist his deeply passionate style emphasizes the 19th-century (Romantic) aspects of these works. Some will find his interpretations controversial, but I find them refreshing and rhythmically invigorating.

Beware "partial" album!

Does this album really NOT contain the first movement of the Moonlight Sonata? But have movements II and II ??? How can you possibly sell a "partial" album of one of the greatest recordings ever -- of three great pieces of music. I keep thinking I'm somehow mistaken ... but no, it isn't there? I spent $8 buying the rest of this but feel ripped off !! Barenboim gets 5 stars, Beethoven gets 5 stars, but iTunes gets 0 stars. Average = 2 stars.

absolutely beethoven!
