Sevendust - The Alpha!

This is a band that's been through hell, both personal and public, multiple times. Each time, they turn their emotions into supreme collections of aggressive music. ALPHA is not only no exception, it finds Sevendust at simultaneously their most raging and focused point of their career. The best way to explain the importance of this release is to mention the influence Sevendust has had on the musical landscape, from giving now multi-platinum bands like Godsmack and Staind their starts (as opening acts) to being mentioned by multiple current hit bands as a style all their own, to be included in songs as if they were a genre unto themsleves ("and in the bridge, we do this Sevendust thing"). Putting ALPHA into its place in the Sevendust collection is simple: with each release, the growth of the band as songwriters and musicians has markedly improved, with each recording also showing a fearlessness to expand and experiment. ALPHA, as the name suggests, is the pinnacle of their creative output thus far. If they wielded a club with their self-titled release, a sledgehammer with the followup HOME, up to a razor-sharp blade with their most recent release NEXT, ALPHA is a laser, a quantum leap forward, building on everything the band has learned and experienced in the last ten years. Depsite the willingness to stretch themselves, the focus and concentration shown on ALPHA is remarkable, each song (including the nine minute Burn) having just enough to complete it, but never more than what's absolutely necessary. Sevendust have shown with this album that not only can they overcome trials and tragedies, and be the stronger for it, they can go on to create a recording that will surely become one of the most important of the first decade of the 21st century.

The best band no one knows about has done it again.

Ill be honest. My first listen thru Alpha wasnt impressive. I rarely fall in love with CD's the first run thru anyways. This album is VERY agressive. VERY abrasive. If you arent prepaired for it you may be turned off. But once you realize that this is probably the heavies 7D record ever made you will appreciate it more. I will also admit that I still miss Clint Lowery's vocals. And Morgan gets a little too much with his yelling. But overall this CD is great. It has a more complex sound. More intricate guitars. More solo work. This is a departure from the trademark one or two cord sound of the past. Sevendust has grown. Grown as men, and fathers. Grown as musicians. And this may be the brutal mastepiece of the 10 year history. Bravo Sevendust. Keep doing your thang.

Sevendust as loud as ever

What can I say? Sevendust continues to impress me with every album they put out. My ONLY complaint with this album is that there isnt a variety (ex an acoustic ballad). Other then that, they give us plenty of what we love. Suffer, Beg to Differ, Story of Your Life, and Alpha are all amazingly loud. Under is amazingly catchy and can easily be their next single. If you've been a fan of Sevendust at any point in their career, I highly recommend you pick this up.

The Atlanta-based quintet Sevendust became one of the rising acts in late-'90s heavy metal with an aggressive blend of bottom-heavy riffs and soulful, accessible melodies. The band, comprised of frontman Lajon Witherspoon, John Connolly (guitar), Clint Lowery (guitar), Vince Hornsby (bass), and Morgan Rose (drums), first appeared in 1995 as Crawlspace, releasing the single "My Ruin" on the Mortal Kombat: More Kombat recording. Shortly thereafter, the group changed its name to Sevendust and released...
