Customer Reviews

Very good compilation for beginners and advanced :)

This is very good collection of their best tracks.
I think this compilation was for new generation of YMO kids.
Especially for outside of Japan, targeting non Japanese audience.
I like one particular track on this album called "Key" remixed by Brian Eno
from their "Sankia Concert" (the band, disband in 1983) 1983 and you can
hear more Sakamoto's keyboards than original version which is in album
called "After Service".

Anyway, why am I giving four starts out of five?
Well, one start lost from remastering job on this album... to me just so loud.
Just like a Stones, Queen remastered...Love them both but remastering is so bad.

But you still need to buy this album:) because it's so GOOD.

A perfect introduction to Yellow Magic Orchestra

With the posthumous release of Michael Jackson's version of "Behind The Mask", and live performances in America for the first time in 30 years, there has been a greater interest in techno-pop pioneers Yelllow Magic Orchestra (or YMO) in America. This compilation album covers their career in full, from their first album right up the present day. All the classics (including Behind The Mask) are accounted for, there's a track from the short-lived 1993 reunion album "Technodon", and even has the reunion single from last year (when they were briefly called HASYMO ) "Tokyo Town Pages". Furthermore all the music has been remastered. For new listeners, this is a great sampler. It's past time YMO were recognized as the great and influential band they are.

Years Active: '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s

The trailblazing force behind the emergence of the Japanese techno-pop sound of the late '70s, Yellow Magic Orchestra remains a seminal influence on contemporary electronic music -- hugely popular both at home and abroad, their pioneering use of synthesizers, sequencers and drum machines places them second only to Kraftwerk as innovators of today's electronic culture. YMO was formed in Tokyo in 1978 by keyboardist Ryuichi Sakamoto, who at the time was working on his debut solo LP; among his collaborators...
