Michelle Malone - the voice, the poet, the force of nature.

This is a great place to start to experience two of her strengths, as a writer of songs that speak from the heart (but speak to the people, truthfully) and an entertainer custom built for the stage, hip to the power she has over an audience and laidback enough to crack a joke. Velvel did a good thing by putting Beneath The Devil Moon back into circulation. Tagging on Lucky To Be Live only improves matters. Such a beautiful, soulful voice and a high watermark for her songwriting. Featuring Amy Ray, Emily Saliers, David Ryan Harris and yours truly. HIGHLY recommended!

Folk-rocker Michelle Malone was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, spending her summers on tour with her mother, a pop singer-turned-gospel vocalist. While attending Agnes Scott College, Malone befriended the Indigo Girls' Amy Ray and Emily Saliers, who in turn encouraged her to pursue a career in music; she soon quit school and honed her skills in local clubs, issuing her debut album, New Experience, in 1988.
