Berlioz: Les Troyens

The first complete recording of this mamoth work. It's absolutely terrific.

Berlioz: Les Troyens

I heard this on Live from the Met in 1983(?) with Placido Domingo and Jesse Norman and was very impressed with it. I also learned it was done in 1973-74 with Jon Vickers and Shirley Verrett or Christa Ludwig, either of whom I would have preferred to Josephine Veasey; but we can't always have what we want. I don't mean to imply that Veasey is not good, it is just a preference. This is a monumental work; like Wagner, it lasts for 4 hours. If you are a real opera fanatic, it is well worth your time for a listen. This recording is great; Jon Vickers alone is worth the price of admission.
