New Life / Old Format

Finally. We get "Best of Friends" for our very own. The strum of the guitars as they amp up and start washing over each other in a warm bath of vintage surf guitar sounds mixed with a little 80's soft punk style and a touch of old "cutting edge" brit pop and you got the Violets. Like the Libertines, the Palma Violets step out of the shadows just when things were getting bit stale. They sweep in a breath new life in an old format. Just because it's old, doesn't mean it's bad. All my fave tunes come out of the 60's, 70's & 80's anyway. There is nothing new here other then an energy and a play on sound that tickles my ear holes just the right way. Like "Last Nite" by the Strokes or "Time for Heroes" by the Libertines…"Best of Friends" is just one of those songs that will forever be on my heavy rotation. Please, enjoy.

Timeless yet fresh

I haven't been excited about a band in a long time. They remind me of Plimsouls, Replacements, Kinks. This is not to say they're a rip. They sound awesome.

I HATE Long Introductions

I liked the sound of Last Of The Summer Wine, but I thought it must be an instrumental when I first listened to it because the vocals don't start until fully a minute into the song. That would bother me every time it came up in the shuffle, and I would just fast forward. I can't stand super long introductions. Even ten seconds is too long for me.

Borrowing equally and freely from punk, garage rock, and psych, London's Palma Violets feature bassist/vocalist Chilli Jenson, guitarist/vocalist Sam Fryer, keyboardist Peter Mayhew, and drummer Will Doyle. In 2010 a chance meeting between school friends Fryer, Mayhew, and Doyle with Jenson at the Reading Festival compelled them to form a band after becoming disillusioned by the lack of meaningful and emotive music on offer. It was in 2012 when things began to take shape and this coincided with their...
