About Tess Henley

Retro-styled R&B singer, pianist, and songwriter Tess Henley made her recorded debut in 2008 with Easy to Love, a self-released set of material that belied her young age. Just after she reached the age of 20, the Kent, Washington native released another EP, The Appetizer, and achieved notice through a number of competitions, including the Budweiser-sponsored Jill Scott's Summer Block Party, which she won. The 2012 film Hello I Must Be Going featured her song "Boy in the Window," which also won SoulTracks' International Song Competition and an Independent Music Award. In 2013, Henley released her second album, High Heels & Sneakers, produced by Philadelphia-based Roots affiliates Dice Raw and Khari Mateen. Yet another competition led to a collaboration with producer Don Was, who helped her record Wonderland, an early-2015 EP that featured backing from session veterans. She promoted it with a pair of performances on Jimmy Kimmel Live. ~ Andy Kellman
