Album Review

Beyond Life with Timothy Leary is a bit of a bizarre release. A combination of interviews, new music that ranges from ambient dance to Ministry and excerpts from Leary's 1967 album Turn On, Tune In Drop Out, the record attempts to create a trance-like atmosphere, one perfect for his vaguely mystical new age sentiments. It's only partially successful in achieving its goals, since the trancey dance music is often lacking in a imagination, and Leary's pontificating sounds out of place next to it. Still, the Moody Blues' new version of "Legend of a Mind" isn't bad, and neither is Al Jourgensen's "Lion's Mouth." The portions of Turn On are intriguing, too; they're just better heard in their original setting.

lsd advocate, not inventor

LSD was first synthesized in 1938 by Swiss chemist Dr. Albert Hofmann at the Sandoz Laboratories in Basel as part of a large research program searching for medically useful ergot alkaloid derivatives. Its psychedelic properties were unknown until 5 years later, when Hofmann, acting on what he has called a "peculiar presentiment," returned to work on the chemical. Timothy Francis Leary, Ph.D. (October 22, 1920 – May 31, 1996) was an American writer, psychologist, computer software designer, and advocate of psychedelic drug research and use. As a 1960s counterculture icon, he is most famous as a proponent of the therapeutic and spiritual benefits of LSD. During the 1960s, he coined and popularized the catch phrase "Turn on, tune in, drop out."

Dr. Leary is one the the greatest minds that ever lived. Understanding him is tough if you have never been out of your own head. So... "turn on, tune in and, take charge" Spread the Joy of LSD. Dr. Leary didnt have anything any of us dont have. Through LSD he was able to break his own sence of understanding and get out of his point of view.
