An Urban Cosmic Voyage

As a music maker myself, I found this album to be a pleasure to listen to. There's a good variety of musical styles including House, Trap, Ambient, Chillwave, and subtle touches of Hip Hop & Electronica. That doesn't go without saying that despite the nice variety of genres, there's a huge sense of cohesion and theme present, which makes it a true album in a pure sense.

The production value is much greater than average and it's apparent that lots of attention to detail was made. Not only are there a wide palette of sounds throughout, but the mix engineering is solid and it carries well past the mastering. To put that more simply, there's a fantastic range of dynamics (from soft to loud) throughout, while achieving a good level of overall loudness, and preserving the quality of the mix.

This is very danceable material considering it's an instrumental record. However, it's confident in its own style and therefore does not try too hard. This also results in it being non-abrasive, so it's great music for studying, working, relaxing. I always feel this is the sweet spot achievement for dance music and "Beyond the Darkness" practically nails it.

I love the vintage/retro 80s vibe that comes and goes in well timed waves. There's great pacing with going from energetic and upbeat, to ethereal and introspective. Sometimes there's a fusion of both and it's a joy to hear. 'Spacewalk' & 'Vectorbeam' are great examples of this. Some tracks are simply epic, such as 'Ready?' (and even Vectorbeam again, haha). Tracks like 'Holodeck Happy Hour' & 'Cat Cafe' are just pure fun and catchy. I love Cat Cafe's percussion breakdown and find it to be an infectious groove. 'Time to Turn the Page' possesses a great balance of everything from Trip Hop style percussion to more of that 80s New Wave sound to sweet ambience that provides a great sense of narrative. And lastly, tracks 'Orbit' & 'Suspended Animation' show off Daemon's adept skill in Ambient music. I find that genre to be one of the most difficult to execute and it's done with adept skill and class here. My only wish is that they were longer, but excellent tracks nevertheless.

I've already listened to this album twice and it's a fantastic addition to my library of music. There isn't much to complain about in terms of what 'Beyond the Darkness' delivers. It's solid instrumental music with catchy rhythms, sounds, and melodies with great engineering treatment. I wouldn't have minded an extra track or 2.. or for some of the tracks to be a little longer, but these are minor nitpicks from an otherwise great album. I strongly recommend it and am confident any lover of music to enjoy it!

This is one of the very albums I could sit down and listen to from start to finish. Can't go wrong with any song on this album, but my personal favorites were Vectorbeam, Holodeck Happy Hour and Ready! Great work Daemon, excited to see what you have in store for the future!

This is an amazing album to jam out to while gaming, sitting around pondering the wonders of the world or when you are getting ready to go out for the night!
