Editors’ Notes

Over the course of his previous six albums, Corb Lund established himself as a master of many country subgenres, from Western to honky tonk and beyond. Yet 2012's Cabin Fever finds him touching on elements of everything from rock to blues as well. Things start off on a dark note, with the dystopian survivalist anthem "Gettin' Down on the Mountain" and the salute to cemetery workers "Dig Gravedigger Dig," which employ distorted electric guitars and gritty, bluesy riffs, respectively. But Lund has always been known for his sense of humor, so things don't stay dark for long. He offers up a lighthearted celebration of the country life on the Western swing–tinged "Cows Around" and lusts after a leather-and-fishnets kind of gal on the rockabilly romp "The Gothest Girl I Can." In a duet with alt-country auteur Hayes Carll, Lund delivers a tongue-in-cheek ode to the presence of the Good Book on the road, "Bible on the Dash." And the Western outlaw tale "Pour 'Em Kinda Strong" suggests Lund's got a future as a screenwriter if he ever abandons his current career.

Great Songwriting

I don’t remember which song on the radio motivated me to buy this album, but I was immediately struck by the range and complexity of these songs. I thought they would just be ‘fun’ songs, and while on the surface they are, there are some really stirring thoughts and words happening here. And the melodies are just as thoughtful.
