iTunes Review

In 1964, Dave Clark Five's raucous beat-driven pop was the only rival to the Beatles' nascent British Invasion. Over the course of their short career (they disbanded in 1970), they created songs that would go on to sell over one hundred million copies. Driven by Dave Clark's front-and-center drumming and Mike Smith's gravelly unhinged vocals, the group knocked out hits like "Bits and Pieces", Glad All Over" and "Because" - hitting the American top 40 over a dozen other times in a three year period. The influence of this hard-working, no-frills, beat-tastic five-piece group can be heard in anyone who espouses a love of pure, energetic rock 'n' roll. This superb collection also boasts a digital booklet which does a great job of putting the band in the context they deserve.

DC5: Members of the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame

Any album with the pounding" Try Too Hard", "Catch Us If You Can" and "Any Way You Want It" automatically earns a minimum 3 stars. Think of the swinging '60s, think of The Dave Clark Five: rivals to The Beatles, in the vanguard of the British Invasion. This collection isn't as supersonic as Dave Clark's 50-track, double CD set from a decade ago, now sadly out of print. But it's got the hits ("Glad All Over", "Bits and Pieces"), rave-ups ("All Night Long"), luverly ballads ("I'll Be Yours My Love") and screaming RNB ("Nineteen Days"). So, I'll take it. But I need the whole of 1966's "Try Too Hard" LP out, too. C'mon, Dave!

FRIDAY MUSIC gives this 5 Stars!!!!

I agree with most DC5 fans....if TRY TO HARD is on's worth the price of admission. I have worn out my vinyl copies of the albums and singles over the years, and replaced them, got the cd's in the early 90's, and now some nice digital samplings of their finest hits. Now, a real groovy thing would be tracks from the Come Home album, the later tracks like Got To Find A Reason , b sides like All Night Long......and so on....but this is great for the new fans and a lot of the older fans that have been waiting for the comeback of the DC5. Plus, let's not forget the production work of Adrian Clark ( Dave Clark himself) This was ahead of its' time. Listen to the driving drum, sax and bass work. Solid stuff. Thoughts and prayers go out to the lead vocalist Mike Smith and his family. We miss you Mike.

How wonderful to finally have these songs available to hear again!!! And how wonderful to hear the FANTASTIC, incredibly UNDERRATED Mike Smith in all his glory!!! One of the best singers ever!!! Now Dave, How about releasing Having A Wild Weekend on DVD?????? "Meat For Go!!"
