Album Review

After two years, the Union Underground would seem to be due for their second album, but apparently it was not finished in time for the summer touring season. Instead, the band issues this six-song EP of live versions of songs from its 2000 debut, An Education in Rebellion, no doubt designed to demonstrate their appeal as a live attraction. The playing is certainly fierce, but the Union Underground's music hasn't yet emerged as more than an arrangement of simple riffs, martial percussion, and variations on harsh pronunciations of the "F" word by lead singer Bryan Scott. From the sound of it, that seems to have been enough to get a crowd's attention on at least a couple of occasions.

The roots of heavy metal band the Union Underground lie in the relationship between singer/guitarist Bryan Scott and guitarist Patrick Kennison, who met in junior high school in San Antonio, TX. After finishing high school, the two launched their own recording studio, Studio Underground, making cassettes of their music.
