Classic! Good Ol' Soulful Rock n' Roll

Barn Doors & Concrete Floors plays like a vinyl relic stored in the belly of your father's basement. Harkening back to the days of Neil Young and Bob Dylan, Gripka's vision was to record in a studio that was, in fact, not a studio at all. In the heart of a dusty, old barn nestled deep in the Catskill Mountains, Gripka, along with co-producer/drummer Steve Shelley (Sonic Youth) and a merry band of musicians, created this highly anticipated follow up. Strong buzz for this release in the UK, lead UNCUT Magazine to include a track from the new album on their March cover mount.

"Gripka presents a musical experience that is both old and new. In an almost conflicting manner, Gripka uses his upbringing as the son of a southern Baptist minister to contrast the realities of his life through music. From drinking to praying, from churches to county jails and from sorrow to revival, his songs are stories and reflections that kick like classic Rock N' Roll all while pining with the heart of Americana roots, complete with undertones of soul trampled country, and gospel choirs". - DIRT HIGHWAY

My favorite album of the year

Like the other reviewer, i came across this album in the review section of Uncut Magazine (my favorite source for new music). I have to agree with their feelings about this album. It's Ryan Adams (pre-Cardninals) with a mix of Gimme Shelter thru Exile On Main Street Stones, with more than a hint of Neil Young's Harvest in it. Its rare i like every song on any album. But Barn Doors rates for me as high as my other favorite of 2011, The King Is Dead by The Decemberists. I listened or sampled Israel's previous outing and he was decidedly in the Credence Clearwater mode. But here, Israel Nash Gripka, much like Ryan Adams (from Whiskeytown days thru the first album with the Cardinals) channels the very best of what made the sound of the late 60's and early 70's so great. I really love this album. A must for a fans of americana music.

Rock on, Sir Gripka!

Yes, the Ryan Adams - Neil Young at al comparisons are understandable, but Israel Gripka should be given an honor he deserv es - and that's to stand alone as a truly wonderful, inspired and inspiring artist. This is without a doubt one of my favorite releases of the year. It's potent, loaded, powerful and moving at the same time. And with all respect to Neil, who is a living legend and I hope the legend will never die, Gripka kicks his butt as a vocalist. Man, I sure hope Gripka keeps churning out stuff like this but I hope this progression doesn't translate into 'popularity' 'cos when that usually happens, look what happens ... you get a new Kings Of Leon album, for example, who twist their art into mush, to make money and be 'popular'... Do yourselves a favor, stick this album on and take a long drive to a bar. Take the album into the bar on your ipod. Get tanked while listening and staring at everyone else and just smiling. Get back into your car ... and sleep it off.

A native of the Ozark Mountains in Missouri, singer/songwriter Israel Nash Gripka blends elements of rock and country with gentle psychedelia and undercurrents of rural folk. After moving to New York in 2006, he released his debut LP, New York Town, in 2009. The influence of '60s and '70s artists like Creedence Clearwater Revival, the Band, and Crosby, Stills & Nash could be heard in his Americana-inspired sound. Seeking a more textural and electric-based sound, he recruited Sonic Youth drummer Steve...
